Congress In The BCS

Congress has been urged to look into the Bowl Championship Series in college football. I am a huge college football fan and i know that the post season has it's flaws but those flaws may not be so easily fixed. There are a lot of people out there who would like a plus 1 system (4 team playoff). So many people think this would be great but it would rarely help the smaller teams that are left out of the national championship picture under the current system. All regular season games are done by the 13th week of the season then we go to the next few weeks of bowl games. If we were to implement a playoff we would have to do it after the 13th week. Since no one is complaining about the idiots that actually rank these teams without watching most of the games lets just use the same BCS rankings that we use now. The top 4 teams would be chosen to be in this playoff. Would this be better for these smaller programs? The answer is no. The top 4 teams at the end of week 13 were 1.Alabama, 2.Texas, 3.Oklahoma, and 4.Florida. Utah was ranked 6th at the end of the season which would have kept them as well as any other undefeated non BCS team out of a playoff. No no...what we need isn't to have congress snooping around to make sure the current system is breaking any anti-trust laws (which it isn't, it was written by a group of anti-trust lawyers and has been challenged and reviewed many times). What we need is some sort of committee that actually cares about college football and pays attention to the games that are played. We need people who will rank games after they have watched them all! The guys we have doing this now put teams like USC and Ohio St. up in the top teams even after embarrassing losses just because they are household names and they are just "better" than the lesser team they lost to. Let's not forget the incredibly easy schedules that these teams have that pave the way for them to be 1 or no loss teams at the end of the year. I say if Orrin Hatch wants to look good for his constituants in Utah then he should look into and seek change of the people doing the ranking and not the computer rankings or eligibility of bowl confrences. The computer rankings are only one third of the final product.

By the way...is there anyone alive who thinks that Utah would have beaten Florida? I mean lets be serious.

thanks for reading.
